Located in Yen Son commune, Huu Lung district, Lang Son province, Heaven’s Gate of Yen Son is a breathtaking limestone arch carved by nature over millions of years. This hidden gem boasts dramatic terrain, with towering cliffs and razor-sharp karst formations that create a truly awe-inspiring landscape.
The journey to Heaven’s Gate takes you through the secluded Lan Ty Valley, which transforms into a shimmering emerald lake during the rainy season and becomes a vast green meadow in the dry months – offering two completely different, yet equally stunning views.
This adventure offers a perfect combination of thrilling outdoor experiences: trekking through protected forests, caving, rock climbing, camping, stand-up paddleboarding (SUP), and especially abseiling (rappelling) down to the spot known as “The Eye of the God.” Conquering Heaven’s Gate is an extraordinary adventure with a hint of adrenaline, where you will climb vertical cliffs and hang mid-air at heights of up to 100 meters. It’s an unforgettable experience for true explorers and adventure lovers.
Itinerary
Your journey begins at 6:00 AM as we pick you up from the Vietnam Expeditions office in Hanoi, heading to Huu Lung – Lang Son. After breakfast in Met town, you will arrive at the Vietnam Expeditions base in Huu Lung to receive your gear and safety briefing from the guides.
Once fully equipped, we will take a shuttle to the trailhead and start trekking through Huu Lien Forest – a protected nature reserve known for its rich ecosystem and untouched beauty. As you walk under the cool shade of the forest canopy, you will reach Khe Dau Waterfall. Here, you can relax, enjoy lunch, take photos, and even take a refreshing dip in the peaceful forest stream.
In the afternoon, the adventure continues with a Stand-up Paddleboarding (SUP) experience through Lan Ty Valley, where lush flooded forests meet crystal-clear waters. Paddling gently between tall trees, admiring the towering presence of Mount “Eye of the God”, letting yourself float in the cool water, will become an healing experience.
After finishing, you will return the equipment and continue a short trek out of the forest. Then, we will take you to your homestay for a well-deserved shower and rest.
In the evening, the group will enjoy a delicious dinner prepared by local villagers featuring traditional specialties. Afterwards, everyone will gather around the campfire for a cozy evening of games like Werewolf, roasting corn and sweet potatoes – a truly memorable night in the peaceful mountains of Huu Lung.
At 8:00 AM, the group sets off to explore another natural wonder – Yen Son Heaven’s Gate.
After breakfast at the homestay, we will travel to the base of Yen Son Mountain. There, you will receive your safety gear and take a light trek through a custard apple orchard to reach the training area. Our guide will walk you through how to use the harness, ropes, and abseiling techniques before the real challenge begins.
From the mountaintop, you will start the abseiling journey down over 100 meters to conquer Heaven’s Gate – a thrilling and memorable experience surrounded by towering cliffs and majestic landscapes.
After completing the challenge, the group will enjoy lunch, rest, and take photos at this stunning location. Then, we will take a short trek downhill to return.
Back at the Vietnam Expeditions office, you will enjoy a light local snack as well as some drinks to celebrate your achievement.
Finally, we will take you back to Hanoi, concluding your unforgettable and adventurous journey around 4:00 PM.
